Accreditation on the Road!

Save the date for Accreditation coming close(r) to you! The NCLHDA Team is coming to Fayetteville (Monday, May 1), Morganton (Tuesday, May 2), and Greenville (Thursday, May 4) to meet with regional workgroups and facilitate interactive sessions to share accreditation resources and build connections within and across the regions.

We loved launching the new year with the 90 of you who joined for our annual update webinar! Thank you especially to Diana Hills, Jessica Farley, and Natalie Williams who joined for a panel discussing their site visit experiences in Fall 2022. Check out this helpful Parliamentary Procedure Primer blog post by Kristina Wilson that walks through procedural rules surrounding motions – this is a great resources to consider sharing with your governing body to help inform their procedures, especially for activities under Benchmark 34!

Good luck to all of our Winter 2023 Site Visits! Accreditation is truly back in action for many LHDs across the state who recently completed or are about to have a site visit in the coming weeks.

With health departments getting back in the swing of accreditation activities, we know there continue to be staff transitions across the state. Please review your agency’s contact information and use the Contact Update form if you need to make any changes. Note: we update the contact list once per month. You can find the last updated date at the top of the Contact List.

Equity Related Resources

As we communicate accreditation updates through monthly highlights, we also have an opportunity to share existing resources that can help support equity related accreditation activities, including accessible training opportunities. The 44th Annual Minority Health Conference

The Minority Health Conference is right around the corner on February 24th, this year with both in-person (Chapel Hill) and virtual options. This conference is the largest and longest-running student-led health conference in the country. This year’s theme is Practicing Health as a Human Right: Policy, Ethics, and the Law and includes keynote lectures from Dr. Cynthia Greenlee and Matiangai Sirleaf. Registration is open until February 10 and ranges from $10-80 depending on registration type.

Community Engagement Highlights from Fall 2022 Site Visits

The Site Visit Team identified many Best Practices in Fall 2022. Over the next few months, we’ll be highlighting some of these best practices in advance of the annual Best Practices report that comes out at the end of each fiscal year. This month, we’re focusing on Benchmark 10:

Highlight 1, Activity 10.2: In Pamlico County, the Site Visit Team recognized the outstanding project work with the Duke University Intern students for demonstrating required documentation for activity 10.2 -`The Current Status of Healthcare in Pamlico County: Gaps and Proposed Solutions` included required component through multiple methods and data collection such as: literature reviews, local health and community leader interviews, interviews with providers /staff across all major health parties in Pamlico County, administrative data with insurance and zip code breakdowns. Critical survey data was utilized: 1. 2020 American Community Survey 5-year data, 2. PCDRC Risk and Vulnerability Assessment & 3. The Community Health Needs Assessment. Interviews with Health Director and Nursing Director confirmed the project information was being utilized to govern their strategic work plans and prioritization to identify at-risk groups for program development.

Highlight 2, Activity 10.3: In Pender County, the Site Visit Team identified the implementation of the Matter of Balance program by the health department as a best practice.
